Intermediate Wheel - Cone 10 Gas Firing -Monday March 23th -May 11th

This course meets for 6 consecutive Mondays, 6-:8:30 pm, at Nola Clay.
Week 7 & 8 will take place on Fridays at Radius Art Studio at 2324 SE Belmont from 6:00–8:30 pm. Youre welcome to join us for the unload of the kiln will take place on Tuesday May 19th at 6pm.

The actual firing of the kiln will take place on May 16th, from 7:00 am to around 7:00 pm (time may vary slightly). Students are welcome to come and observe, make adjustments to the kiln with guidance, and chat about the firing process at any point during the firing. There will be snacks, tea, and fun pottery knowledge sharing.

This 8-week Cone 10 gas-firing class offers students the opportunity to deepen their skills on the wheel as well as in high-fire ceramics. From forming finished work all the way to the firing process, students will leave with an understanding of how to use Cone 10 glazes as well as developing skills for loading and firing gas kilns.

This class will be co-taught by instructors Kelly Beiermann and Lela Blyler, combining technical instruction with thoughtful exploration of form, surface, and process.

The wheel-throwing portion of this class will take place at Kelly's studio, Nola Clay, in Northeast Portland. The glazing and firing portion will take place at Radius Art Studio on SE Belmont, where students will learn Cone 10 glaze application, loading strategies, and the fundamentals of gas reduction firing. Students will gain hands-on experience with the firing process and develop a deeper understanding of how flame, atmosphere, and materials influence their finished work.

The kiln will be unloaded on May 19th, at 5:00 pm at Radius. Come by to pick up your pots then if you are able! If not, you can pick them up during any of Radius’ open studio hours for the next month.

Course includes: 1 cubic foot of firing space in the kiln (additional space can be purchased through the Radius website), clay, tools, glazes, and 6 open studio hours a week to practice (hours may vary).

Attendees must be 18 or older.

******CANCELLATION POLICY:

Cancellations can be honored with a full refund up to 10 days prior to the class start date, minus a $15 processing fee. We are unable to offer refunds or transfers for any reason once the course has started.

Once the class has begun, you cannot transfer your session to another student. These policies are in place to protect our employees and our small business, as we cannot recoup these expenses.
